Stephanie Haban

I work and play with clay mostly by hand throwing on the wheel because it’s fun! … also because it gives me an opportunity to thoughtfully express myself creatively and artistically as well as spontaneously and mechanically – a paradox perhaps.

Clay is wonderfully malleable – it provides a transport for control of its adaptiveness and as a conduit for its own integrity and destination. Understanding its authenticity, as well as its geologic origin, enables me to appreciate an inspired connection with life itself!

I enjoy making functional ware, e.g., bowls, platters and vases. I begin to lose myself (a fun thing!) in the process after the clay is centered on the wheel, which is when the ball of clay is opened and available to create form as function.
